Blue Mountain Christian splits SSAC softball doubleheader with Point
WEST POINT, Ga. — The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers and the Point Skyhawks split their SSAC softball doubleheader Saturday. The Skyhawks won game one 6-3, while the Toppers took game two 6-0.
In the first game, the Toppers scored first. Mikaylah Fuqua reached base in the first inning and later scored on an RBI double by Aspen Teague, giving Blue Mountain Christian an early 1-0 lead. The Toppers added another run in the third when Neely Barrier scored on a sacrifice fly from Teague to make it 2-0.
Point answered in the bottom half of the inning with a big offensive rally, taking the lead and adding another run in the fourth. The Toppers fought back, scoring in the sixth on an RBI single by Bre Ramsey that brought Kelsey Camp home. Ramsey went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double, leading the team offensively. Teague added two RBIs, while Anna Harrison and Barrier each recorded hits. Fuqua drew two walks and stole two bases to create scoring opportunities.
Gail Wisher started in the circle for Blue Mountain Christian, and Janna Shaw pitched 3.1 innings of relief, allowing one run and striking out three.
The Toppers responded strongly in the second game. They broke open the score in the fifth inning with a two-RBI triple from Teague, scoring Fuqua and Harrison. Kelsey Camp followed with an RBI double, scoring Teague, and the team added two more runs later in the inning to lead 5-0. They extended the lead in the sixth when Harrison scored to make it 6-0.
Teague led the offense in game two with two hits and two RBIs. Camp contributed two RBIs, and Harrison scored twice. Fuqua, Karen Wisher, Chloe Shelton, and Barrier each added hits in the shutout victory. Bri Langley pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits and striking out six to earn the win.
Blue Mountain Christian will look to carry the momentum into the next SSAC series against Point, hoping to build on their strong performance in game two.
