Blue Mountain Christian University sweeps Point in doubleheader to open SSAC play
Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University started its SSAC schedule with a doubleheader sweep against Point. The Toppers won the first game 10-3 and followed with an 8-2 victory in the nightcap, according to school officials.
In the first game, BMCU jumped to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning. Ross Polizzi hit an RBI double, and Cody Presley added a sacrifice fly. Jarrett Morris and Yaidel Perez also drove in runs during the inning. The Toppers extended their lead in the sixth inning with key hits from Polizzi, Presley, Trace Roy, and Perez, who drove in two RBIs. Polizzi finished 4-for-4 with two RBIs, and Perez had three RBIs, according to the school.
Ryan Murphy pitched six innings for the win, allowing three runs and striking out four. Christian Manness closed out the game. Later in the day, BMCU continued its offensive surge in the nightcap, with Ethan Hirons and Polizzi leading the way. Hirons doubled and stole home to give the Toppers a 2-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Ross Polizzi drew a walk, and Cody Presley hit a two-RBI single to extend the lead. Jake Meilstrup contributed with an RBI single in the fifth, and Polizzi added a two-run double to increase the margin.
Benji Webb pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and striking out eight, to secure the victory. Point managed to score twice in the sixth but could not overcome the Toppers’ early lead. The wins mark a strong start for Blue Mountain in conference play, with the team showing offensive balance and solid pitching throughout the doubleheader.
