Blue Mountain Christian’s Cooper Named SSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week after No-Hitter

Montgomery, Alabama — Neely Cooper of Blue Mountain Christian has been named the SSAC Softball Pitcher of the Week following her no-hit performance against Thomas University.

Cooper pitched five innings of hitless ball, issuing one walk and striking out five batters. She faced only 19 batters and needed just 70 pitches to complete the no-hitter. She also recorded 10 groundouts, preventing Thomas from gaining any offensive momentum.

The pitcher’s command was evident throughout the game. She worked efficiently, limited baserunners and relied on her defense to make plays behind her, according to her coach, Matt Brunet. “Nobody deserves this honor more than Neely Cooper,” Brunet said. “She has been the ultimate team player over the past two years. Her teammates love her and trust her in big moments. She loves to compete and thrives when pressure is on. We are very proud of her and honored that she pitches for BMCU.”

Cooper’s performance contributed to a strong showing for Blue Mountain Christian as they continue conference play. Her efforts provided a significant boost to the team’s pitching staff, the school said.
