Blue Mountain Falls to Tennessee Southern in SSAC Basketball Clash
Blue Mountain, Miss. — The Blue Mountain Christian University men’s basketball team played a tough game Saturday but fell 67–60 to Tennessee Southern in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup.
The Toppers started strong, battling an early Tennessee Southern lead to stay within striking distance. Tennessee Southern built a solid advantage in the first half, but Blue Mountain responded with increased intensity in the second half, closing the gap and keeping the game competitive down the stretch.
Blue Mountain continued to push on both ends, forcing turnovers and creating scoring opportunities. However, Tennessee Southern made key plays in the final minutes to secure the victory. The Toppers fought until the final horn, challenging their conference foe throughout all 40 minutes.
Jonathan Baker led Blue Mountain with 11 points, while Gavin Shannon added 10 points off the bench. Jalen Boyd-Savage scored six points, and Michael Hill contributed seven, including a crucial third-quarter three-pointer that helped sustain the comeback effort.
The Toppers’ defense forced numerous turnovers and challenged inside against Tennessee Southern’s balanced attack. Despite their effort, they couldn’t overcome an early deficit. Blue Mountain will next travel to face Life University as they continue SSAC play, aiming to carry their grit and resolve into upcoming games.
