Brewton-Parker Christian University tops Blue Mountain Christian in doubleheader
Mount Vernon, Ga. — The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers opened a three-game SSAC series Friday against Brewton-Parker Christian University in Mount Vernon. The Barons took both games, winning 7-1 in the first and 17-8 in the second.
In the opener, Brewton-Parker built an early lead with four runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added three more on a three-run homer in the fifth, extending their advantage. Blue Mountain Christian scored once in the sixth on a solo home run by Jacob Bryant but could not rally back. The Barons secured the victory behind a strong start on the mound and timely hitting, according to the university.
The second game saw Blue Mountain Christian take an early lead, as Ross Polizzi drove in Jake Meilstrup on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Brewton-Parker responded quickly, taking an 8-1 lead after three innings. The Toppers chipped away, with Bryant hitting a solo home run in the seventh and Perez adding another in the eighth. Polizzi also contributed with an RBI double during the game.
The Toppers pulled within one run late, aided by an RBI double from Polizzi that made the score 9-8. However, Brewton-Parker answered with an eight-run bottom of the eighth, highlighted by a three-run homer from Fred Diaz, to seal the victory. Bryant was a bright spot offensively, homering in both games, while Perez homered and drove in runs in the second game.
The series concludes Saturday with the final game in Mount Vernon. Both teams will look to finish strong in the remaining matchup, according to the schools.
