Cooper throws no-hitter as Blue Mountain Christian sweeps Thomas in SSAC doubleheader
Thomasville, Georgia — The Blue Mountain Christian University softball team swept a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader against Thomas on Saturday. The highlights included a no-hitter from Neely Cooper in game two and a historic performance from Anna Harrison.
In game one, the Toppers won 12-3 behind a strong offensive effort. They collected 17 hits and scored in five innings to secure the win. Kelsey Camp opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning. Aspen Teague drove in three runs with a triple in the second, helping the team build a four-run lead. Rachel Rommel, Maryn Macri, Lakyn Nichols, Teague, and Camp added RBIs to extend the advantage.
Teague led the offense with three hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Camp also had three hits and two RBIs, while Macri added two hits and two RBIs. Anna Harrison scored three runs, setting a program record for runs scored in a season. Mikaylah Fuqua and Bre Ramsey contributed offensively as well. Madison Montgomery earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on four hits.
The momentum carried into game two, where Cooper threw a five-inning no-hitter in an 8-0 run-rule victory. Cooper struck out five batters, walked one, and induced 10 groundouts during her dominant performance. The Toppers scored five runs in the first inning, with Harrison crossing home plate for the first run, marking her 41st of the season and setting a new team record.
Fuqua led the team with two hits and two runs scored. Teague added two hits and an RBI, while Camp and Neely Barrier also contributed runs batted in. The sweep keeps Blue Mountain Christian in strong position in conference play as they aim to build on their success.
