Little Rock BMCU Women’s Tennis Team Responds with Dominant Win After Opening Loss

The BMCU women’s tennis team opened its day with a 7-0 loss to Texas A&M–Texarkana, despite several close matches, before rebounding with a decisive victory over John Brown University later in the afternoon.

In the first match, the Topppers struggled against TAMU Texarkana. Doubles play saw Camila Mordiz and Eugenia Ramos drop a 6–2 decision at No. 1 doubles. Lina Cetina and Lucia Rodriguez Garcia lost 6–3 at No. 2, while Kiersten Terris and Valeria Manquillo narrowly fell 7–4 in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.

Singles matches featured competitive sets, but the Topppers ultimately fell in all six matches. Mordiz lost 6–4, 6–0; Cetina was defeated 6–4, 6–2; Ramos fell 7–5, 6–1; Malyaporn was beaten 6–2, 6–3; and Garcia lost 6–3, 6–0. Despite the final score, the match provided valuable experience against a strong opponent and motivated a focused response later in the day.

Later, the Topppers dominated John Brown University, winning all seven matches. Doubles play set the tone early, with Mordiz and Ramos winning 6–2 at No. 1. Cetina and Garcia secured a 6–4 victory at No. 2, and Malyaporn and Terris completed the sweep with a 6–3 win at No. 3.

Singles performances continued the momentum. Mordiz won 6–2, 6–1; Cetina claimed a 6–3, 6–2 victory; Ramos delivered a commanding 6–0, 6–2 win; Malyaporn added a 6–3, 6–4 win; Garcia prevailed 6–1, 6–2; and Terris closed with a 6–2, 7–6 victory in a tiebreaker. The sweep highlighted the team’s resilience and growth following their earlier setback.

The day’s results reflect the challenges and development experienced by the BMCU women’s tennis team, which responded to adversity with a confident, well-rounded performance in their second match.
