Rust edges Blue Mountain Christian in road thriller

Holly Springs, Miss. — The Blue Mountain Christian men’s basketball team led at halftime but fell 77-73 to Rust College on Monday night. The Toppers started strong, establishing an early offensive rhythm and applying solid defensive pressure.

They built a double-digit lead in the first half and went into the break ahead 43-33. Rust responded after halftime, tightening its defense and launching scoring runs to chip away at the deficit. The Bearcats eventually moved ahead midway through the second half.

Blue Mountain Christian continued to battle, answering baskets and staying within reach in the closing minutes. However, Rust made key plays down the stretch to secure the win. Jalen Boyd-Savage led the Toppers with 18 points, including four three-pointers. Michael Hill added 14 points, providing steady scoring throughout the game.

Gavin Shannon contributed 14 rebounds and seven points inside, while Esrael Yant scored 12 points off the bench. Kam Carter added nine points and three assists in a balanced effort. Despite the loss, the Toppers showed resilience and competitiveness, especially in the first half.

Blue Mountain Christian’s next game is scheduled at home against UT-Southern, according to team officials.
