Toppers fall in double-overtime thriller against Firehawks
Pulaski, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian nearly pulled off a comeback in a double-overtime game but fell short against Tennessee Southern on Saturday at the Curry Athletic Complex. The Firehawks led much of the contest, but the Toppers stayed persistent and pushed the game into extra periods.
Tennessee Southern maintained control early, building a lead through efficient offense. Blue Mountain Christian responded late in regulation, rallying with improved offensive execution and stronger defense. The Toppers chipped away at the lead, answering key baskets and forcing overtime.
Senior guard Gavin Shannon scored a team-high 31 points, leading the comeback effort with consistent shooting and leadership. Michael Hill added 23 points, while Jonathan Baker contributed 12 points with a physical inside presence. Chris Tackett scored 11 points off the bench during critical moments.
Neither team scored in the first overtime, pushing the game into a second extra period. Tennessee Southern made a late basket to secure a one-point victory. The Toppers will host ABAC for senior night at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
