UT Southern beats Blue Mountain in 10-inning SSAC opener

Blue Mountain Christian University lost to UT Southern 8-3 in 10 innings Friday during the opening game of their SSAC series. The Firehawks scored five runs in the top of the 10th inning to secure the win.

UT Southern took an early 3-0 lead before Blue Mountain responded in the fifth inning. The Toppers scored a run to cut the deficit to 3-1 and continued to chip away, eventually tying the game and forcing extra innings.

In the 10th inning, the Firehawks pulled away with a five-run rally, ending the game. Blue Mountain recorded eight hits in the contest. Yaidel Perez led the Toppers offensively, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. Jake Meilstrup contributed with a hit, a run scored, a walk, and a stolen base.

Jarrett Morris, Trace Roy, and Hugh Parsons each drove in a run for Blue Mountain. Jacob Bryant, Cody Presley, and Morris added hits as well. On the mound, Chip Harris started and pitched five innings, allowing three runs with four strikeouts. Christian Maness pitched 4.1 innings in relief, striking out four, and Jesse Hancock also appeared out of the bullpen.

The Toppers will look to rebound as they continue their series against UT Southern.
