Blue Mountain Christian Falls to Christian Brothers in Doubleheader
The Blue Mountain Christian softball team traveled to Memphis on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader against NCAA Division II opponent Christian Brothers University. The Toppers lost the first game 9-8 before settling for a 6-6 tie in the second game, which was called after eight innings due to darkness.
In the first game, both teams traded runs throughout the afternoon. Christian Brothers scored first, but Aspen Teague responded with a solo home run in the second inning. Bre Ramsey added a two-run homer later that inning to give Blue Mountain Christian a 3-1 lead. The Buccaneers scored twice in the third and twice in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.
The Toppers rallied in the sixth inning, loading the bases and scoring five runs. Anna Harrison drove in two runs on an error, and Mikaylah Fuqua added an RBI single, putting Blue Mountain Christian ahead 8-5. Christian Brothers responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning and eventually tied the game in the seventh. The Buccaneers scored the winning run in the eighth to secure a 9-8 victory.
Offensively, Teague led the Toppers with three hits and a home run. Kelsey Camp added two hits, and Fuqua finished with two hits and an RBI. Neely Cooper pitched 3.1 innings, while Jana Shaw pitched the final 3.2 in relief.
The second game was equally competitive. Blue Mountain Christian scored first, with Fuqua driving in a run in the first inning. The Toppers extended their lead to 3-1 in the second and 6-3 in the fourth, highlighted by Kelsey Camp’s two-run single. Christian Brothers chipped away, tying the game with a two-run homer in the fifth and evening the score again in the seventh.
The game remained tied through the eighth inning, which was called due to lack of field lights. Anna Harrison went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for the Toppers. Gail Wisher pitched all seven innings, allowing six runs with five strikeouts.
Despite the results, Blue Mountain Christian showed resilience, battling through two competitive games against the Division II Buccaneers, including an extra-inning contest halted by darkness.
