Blue Mountain Christian Softball Sweeps Brewton-Parker with Walk-Off in Game 2
Blue Mountain, Miss. — The Blue Mountain Christian University softball team earned an SSAC doubleheader sweep over Brewton-Parker on Saturday. The Toppers won Game 1 7-5 and secured the second game with a 4-3 walk-off victory in the seventh inning, according to school officials.
In Game 1, Blue Mountain took control early with a five-run second inning after Brewton-Parker scored in the first. Vaye Savage drove in a run with a single, and Mikaylah Fuqua hit a three-run triple to put the Toppers ahead 5-1. Brewton-Parker responded with two runs in the third and two more in the sixth, narrowing the lead to one. Blue Mountain added an insurance run in the fourth on an RBI single by Fuqua and another in the sixth on an RBI from Aspen Teague to seal the win. The Toppers totaled 11 hits, led by Fuqua, who went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Neely Barrier and Gail Wisher each contributed two hits. Janna Shaw pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five runs, three earned, and Madison Montgomery earned the save with 1.2 scoreless innings.
In Game 2, Blue Mountain struck first with a sacrifice fly from Kelsey Camp. Brewton-Parker responded with three runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Toppers began their comeback in the fifth inning when Barrier drove in a run. They tied the game in the sixth on a wild pitch that allowed Gail Wisher to score. The game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh, when Teague delivered a walk-off RBI single to right field, scoring Fuqua and ending the game. Blue Mountain finished with eight hits, led by Lakyn Nichols with two. Teague, Barrier, and others contributed offensively. Bri Langley started in the circle, allowing three runs over four innings, before Montgomery earned the win in relief with three innings of one-hit ball and three strikeouts.
The sweep boosts Blue Mountain’s momentum as they prepare for upcoming SSAC games, according to team officials.
