Blue Mountain Christian tops Bethel 5-4 in road game

McKenzie, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian earned a 5-4 road victory Tuesday over Bethel in a nine-inning game. The Toppers scored early, with Ross Polizzi driving in Jake Meilstrup with an RBI single in the first inning to give BMCU a 1-0 lead.

Bethel responded in the fourth to tie the game. Blue Mountain Christian regained the lead in the fifth when Cody Presley delivered a two-RBI single, scoring Jacob Bryant and Ethan Hirons. The Wildcats tied the game again in the sixth with two runs, making it 3-3.

In the seventh, Gates Gerhart drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Bryant and put the Toppers ahead 4-3. Hirons scored his second run of the game in the eighth to make it 5-3. Bethel made a late push in the ninth with a sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit to 5-4, but Nolan Wood closed out the game with two scoreless innings to earn the save.

Blue Mountain Christian finished with 10 hits. Hirons went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Presley drove in two runs, while Polizzi and Gerhart each added an RBI. Jacob Bryant contributed a double. On the mound, Caden Moore started and tossed three scoreless innings. Jabari Farr earned the win in relief, and Wood secured the save.
