Blue Mountain Christian University Opens SSAC Series with Win Over Point
Blue Mountain Christian University took the first game of the Southern States Athletic Conference series against Point University, winning 7-4 Friday at the BMCU Sportsplex. The Toppers built an early lead with consistent offense and solid pitching, never relinquishing their advantage.
Blue Mountain set the tone from the outset. A passed ball with runners on first and second allowed the game’s first run. The Toppers extended their lead with back-to-back innings, with Jake Meilstrup driving in Yaidel Perez with an RBI double in the second and Perez adding another run in the third.
The team continued to push their lead throughout the game. Reise Thomas drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Point scored twice in the sixth. Jarret Morris responded immediately with an RBI single to restore the two-run margin. In the seventh, Morris delivered a two-RBI single, scoring Ross Polizzi and Jacob Bryant to make it 7-3.
Point attempted a late rally, scoring two in the ninth. However, Blue Mountain’s pitchers, Chip Harris and Jesse Hancock, kept the Skyhawks at bay, limiting threats late in the game. The Toppers’ offense, led by Cody Presley’s three hits and Morris’s timely hits, totaled 10 hits in the game.
Blue Mountain’s patience at the plate and clutch execution set the tone for the series. The team looks to carry this momentum into Saturday’s game, according to team sources.
