Blue Mountain Falls to Loyola in SSAC Tennis Match
The Blue Mountain Christian University men’s tennis team competed in SSAC Roundup play Thursday in Montgomery, Alabama, falling 5-2 to Loyola University (La.), according to school officials.
The Toppers showed resilience in singles play, earning wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions. Kevin Kotzé defeated his opponent in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. Luis Lainer also secured a point with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles.
In doubles, Loyola claimed the point after victories at all three positions. Adriaan Englebrecht and Luis Lainer lost 1-6 at No. 1 doubles, while Caleb Rogers and Craig Blevins were defeated 3-6 at No. 2. Pablo Cruz and Kevin Kotzé fought hard but fell 6-7 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Englebrecht was defeated 2-6, 2-6 at No. 1. Cruz lost the first set 4-6 and was edged in a tiebreaker in the second, 6-7 (5-7). Maj Langerholz lost 1-6, 1-6 at No. 3 singles.
The Blue Mountain men will continue SSAC Roundup play as the conference matches progress in Montgomery, according to school officials.
