Blue Mountain falls to Tennessee Southern in double overtime in SSAC tournament

Montgomery, Ala. — The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers took No. 3 seed Tennessee Southern into double overtime before falling 75-72 in the opening round of the SSAC Women’s Basketball Championship, according to school officials.

The game began with both teams trading baskets, as Tennessee Southern found its rhythm early. Blue Mountain responded with strong defense and patient offense, keeping pace throughout regulation. Neither team could pull away, and the game remained tight heading into overtime.

The contest extended into a second overtime period, with both sides continuing to exchange leads. The Toppers stayed composed and competitive until the final seconds, when Tennessee Southern edged ahead to secure the victory.

Blue Mountain was led by a balanced effort. Maddie Kirk scored 17 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished five assists. McKenzie Williams added 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Isabella Carlson posted 13 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, orchestrating the offense. Rebecca Walter contributed 10 points and seven rebounds, and Lena Taylor hit three three-pointers for nine points. Kathryn Echols added seven points and seven rebounds, providing valuable minutes off the bench.

The Toppers connected on 10 three-pointers, totaled 53 rebounds, and recorded 18 assists. The team’s collective effort was evident throughout the game, reflecting strong ball movement and defensive tenacity. Blue Mountain’s seniors were praised for their character on and off the court, according to school officials.
