Cumberland edges Blue Mountain Christian Women in close match

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian Women’s tennis team lost its first match of the season, falling 4-3 to Cumberland on Friday. The Lady Toppers lost the doubles point but responded with three singles wins.

Camila Mordiz secured a victory at No. 1 singles, winning 6-4, 6-0. Lina Cetina also earned a win at No. 3, defeating her opponent 6-4, 0-6, 13-11. Nami Malyaporn won at No. 6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

Blue Mountain’s three doubles teams all lost, and Eugenia Ramos retired on court two. Valeria Manquillo and Lucia Rodriguez Garcia also dropped their singles matches.

The Lady Toppers were scheduled to face Christian Brothers University on Friday but had to withdraw due to illness. CBU had to cancel the match.

Blue Mountain Christian (2-1) is scheduled to return to action Saturday, Feb. 21, against Rhodes College in Memphis at 1 p.m. CT.
