Ripley kept its district volleyball record unblemished Monday, sweeping Senatobia 3–0 at home to move above .500 overall, while Falkner extended its winning streak to three matches with a 3–1 road victory over Biggersville.
The Sept. 21 wins strengthened both teams’ positions in their respective regions. Ripley improved to 12–11 overall and 5–0 in Class 4A Region 3; Falkner reached 7–12 and 5–2 in Class 1A Region 1.
For the Tigers, the win over Senatobia followed last Tuesday’s sweep of Alcorn Central. Those consecutive home victories have brought Ripley back from a straight-sets loss at Kossuth on Sept. 14. Senatobia, which arrived with a 10–4 overall record, left at 10–5.
Ripley remains first in the posted region standings. Its five reported district victories have all come in straight sets, a contrast to an overall schedule that has included losses to Oxford, Caledonia and Tishomingo County.
Falkner’s four-set win at Biggersville continued a run that began with a five-set victory over Wheeler on Sept. 15 and a sweep of Thrasher two days later. All three wins count toward the Eagles’ district record, which stood at 2–2 before the streak.
The Eagles also beat Biggersville 2–1 in tournament play Aug. 15. Monday’s result dropped the Lions to 2–21 overall and kept Falkner third in the posted region standings. Neither Monday box score included set-by-set totals or individual statistics.
Falkner’s next listed match offers a quick rematch with Wheeler: Thursday, Sept. 24, at 6 p.m. on the road.
Pine Grove was scheduled to visit Thrasher on Monday, but its final remained unreported Tuesday morning. The Panthers’ next listed match is at home against Wheeler on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Walnut, 21–4 overall and 5–0 in its district, visits New Site at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
No additional Monday varsity final was verified for Blue Mountain or Walnut.
