Blue Mountain Christian falls short in close SSAC loss to Tennessee Southern
Pulaski, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian delivered a resilient effort Friday night but fell just short in a 77-74 Southern States Athletic Conference game against Tennessee Southern.
The contest featured momentum swings and a late-game surge by the Toppers, making the outcome uncertain until the final seconds. Tennessee Southern took an early lead in the first quarter, using efficient possessions to build a narrow advantage. Blue Mountain Christian stayed within striking distance through the first half, attacking inside and finding offensive rhythm despite trailing at halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the Toppers gained energy and trimmed the deficit during the third quarter. Improved ball movement and shot selection helped Blue Mountain Christian close the gap. In the fourth quarter, the Toppers scored 26 points and matched Tennessee Southern shot for shot, applying consistent pressure down the stretch.
Multiple late baskets brought Blue Mountain Christian within one possession, forcing the host team to execute in the final seconds to secure the win. Rebecca Walter led the Toppers with 21 points, shooting efficiently and providing consistent offense. McKenzie Williams posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, controlling the paint. Kathryn Echols drained four three-pointers en route to 14 points, and Maddie Kirk also scored 14. Isabella Carlson contributed with five rebounds and four assists, helping facilitate the offense during key moments.
The Toppers will host ABAC on Monday for Senior Day at 5:30 p.m.
