Blue Mountain Christian Upsets No. 18 William Carey in SSAC Battle
Hattiesburg, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian pulled off a 69-64 upset against No. 18 William Carey in an SSAC women’s basketball game Saturday afternoon.
After a close first quarter, the Toppers gained control with tough defense, timely scoring, and disciplined execution. They used defensive stops and rebounding to create additional offensive opportunities, finishing the game with a 46-28 rebounding advantage.
Blue Mountain Christian shot 47.2% from the field and limited William Carey to one-and-done possessions, repeatedly responding to runs by the Crusaders with timely baskets. The Toppers maintained composure during multiple momentum swings and made key plays in the fourth quarter, including clutch free throws and defensive stops to seal the win.
Maddie Kirk led Blue Mountain Christian with 20 points, along with six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Kathryn Echols added 14 points and six rebounds, while McKenzie Williams contributed 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Lena Taylor scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Isabella Carlson finished with five points and five assists.
The win secures the Toppers the No. 6 seed heading into the SSAC Basketball Championship Tournament.
