Blue Mountain softball sweeps ABAC as Harrison breaks stolen base record
Blue Mountain Christian University’s softball team secured two Southern States Athletic Conference victories Friday at the BMCU Sportsplex, sweeping Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 8-1 and 5-0. The wins improve the Toppers’ conference record to 2-2.
In the first game, Blue Mountain’s offense was prolific, collecting 14 hits in an 8-1 victory. Mikaylah Fuqua went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Aspen Teague was perfect at the plate with a 3-for-3 effort, including a double and an RBI. Anna Harrison added two hits and an RBI, and stole two bases, marking her 37th stolen base of the season and breaking the program’s single-season record, according to sources.
The Toppers demonstrated aggressive baserunning, stealing eight bases in the game. Fuqua led with three stolen bases, and Harrison contributed two. Gail Wisher, Karen Wisher, and Teague each had a stolen base as well.
Madison Montgomery pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out four without issuing a walk to earn the win. In the second game, Blue Mountain continued its offensive dominance, tallying 14 hits and shutting out ABAC 5-0.
Fuqua and Teague each went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Harrison added another two hits, a run scored, and her stolen base record. Lakyn Nichols also contributed two hits and an RBI. Bre Ramsey and Vaye Savage added RBI hits, with Savage going 2-for-2 at the plate. Neely Cooper pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing seven hits and striking out two, earning the victory.
Blue Mountain’s softball team continues to build momentum as it heads further into the conference season, highlighted by Harrison’s milestone performance, according to team officials.
