TIPPAH COUNTY–The 2023 MHSAA Basketball Championships get underway tonight with first-round girl’s action across the state. The first round for boys begins tomorrow night.
Tippah County will be represented by eight teams, which include girls’ teams from Blue Mountain, Falkner, Ripley and Walnut and boys’ teams from Blue Mountain, Falkner, Pine Grove and Ripley.

No. 4 Falkner Lady Eagles (9-13) at No. 1 Blue Mountain Lady Cougars (21-5), 6 p.m. The winner will advance to round two and meet the winner of No. 3 Vardaman/ No. 2 West Union. The higher seed will host.
No. 4 Walnut Lady Wildcats (15-14) at No. 1 Coahoma County (14-10). The winner will advance to round two and meet the winner of No. 3 Choctaw County/ No. 2 Potts Camp. The higher seed will host.
No. 4 Ripley Lady Tigers (11-16) at No. 1 Louisville (24-2). The winner will advance to round two and meet the winner of No. 3 Yazoo County/No. 2 Mooreville. The higher seed will host.
No. 3 Falkner Eagles (19-9) at No. 2 Blue Mountain Cougars (14-10). The winner will advance to round two and meet the winner of No. 4 Okolona/No. 1 West Union. The higher seed will host.
No. 3 Riverside (15-10) at No. 2 Pine Grove Panthers (20-8). The winner will advance to round two and meet the winner of No. 4 Myrtle/No. 1 Calhoun City. The higher seed will host.
