Ripley Falls in Slugfest, Pine Grove Shut Out, Falkner Drops Road Contest
Tippah County teams were back in action Tuesday night, with Ripley battling in a high-scoring contest, Pine Grove running into a red-hot Kossuth squad, and Falkner falling to New Site despite a bright spot at the plate.
Alcorn Central 10, Ripley 7
Ripley showed patience and fight, but a big fifth inning proved costly in a 10-7 loss to Alcorn Central.
Emma Edwards reached base four times and displayed tremendous discipline at the plate, drawing three walks and blasting a solo home run to right field in the first inning to give the Lady Tigers an early lead.
Ripley briefly regained momentum in the third. Ahniyza Wallace delivered a two-run double, and the Lady Tigers executed a steal of home to take a 4-3 advantage. The teams traded runs before Alcorn Central erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to seize control for good.
Brinson Gay went the distance in the circle for Ripley, striking out six over six innings while allowing 10 runs, only four of which were earned.

Wallace and McKinah Hurt each collected two hits. Ripley worked five walks and swiped four bases, with Wallace stealing two. The Lady Tigers showed aggression on the basepaths and continued to battle offensively throughout the game.
Ripley travels to Kossuth on Thursday.

Kossuth 12, Pine Grove 0

Pine Grove struggled to slow down a surging Kossuth lineup in a 12-0 defeat.
Kossuth struck early with four runs in the first and poured on six more in the second inning to take command. Pine Grove was limited to just two hits on the night, both coming from Lyndi Holloway.
Caroline Jones started in the circle and worked through a tough opening inning, while Edie Chapman provided relief.
Despite the scoreline, Pine Grove turned a double play defensively and continued to compete until the final out.
The Lady Panthers return home Thursday to host Saltillo.
New Site 13, Falkner 3
Falkner fell 13-3 to New Site in a game highlighted by Emma Mauney’s inside-the-park home run.
Mauney provided the offensive spark for the Lady Eagles, driving in two runs and finishing 2-for-3 at the plate. Falkner pushed across two runs in the fifth, but New Site answered with a six-run sixth inning to put the game away.
Mauney also went the distance in the circle, striking out three over six innings.
Defensively, Falkner was sharp, committing no errors and turning a double play. Brenlee Walker led the team in fielding opportunities.
