Lady Wildcats get pair of wins to close out regular season
Walnut picked up a pair of wins ahead of the 1-2A district tournment next week which they will host.
The Lady Wildcats took out in county foe Falkner on the road Tuesday by a score of 55-22 then defeated Ashland at home on senior night 65-42.
The Lady Wildcats have locked up a spot in the 2A playoffs as they enter the tournament as the #2 seed.
Against Falkner, Walnut outscored the Lady Eagles 19-0 in the third quarter to coast to the convincing victory. Claire Leak had 21 points and 9 rebounds while MK Vuncannon added 12 points and 10 boards.
Against Ashland to close out the regular season, the Lady Cats started strong then slammed the door shut with big 1st and 4th quarters. Claire Leak led with 26 points and 9 rebounds. MK Vuncannon put up 19 points and 12 rebounds while Aleia Peterson had 10 points to round out the double digit scorers.
The Lady Wildcats play at 7 pm on Thursday against the winner between East Union and Potts Camp. A win locks up a home playoff game.
The Walnut boys play Tuesday against East Union needing to win to get into the 2A playoffs.
