Falkner gets split with Ashland as boys win in OT thriller
Falkner’s division season began on Tuesday with the Eagles hosting their Highway 370 rival Ashland. The second season began with a bang.
The Eagles came away with a thrilling 76-75 victory after trailing by 8 points headed into the final frame in a game that went back and forth all evening.
The Eagles were down 6 points with under 2 minutes to play before Cody Johnson and Cade Wilder hit big three pointers to tie the game. A flurry of lead changes and ties and the Blue Devils found themselves down 3 with 2.5 seconds to play in the 4th quarter before this Tavionne Stigger shot went in to tie the game.
The score tied at 67 and with Ashland seemingly having all of the momentum, the Eagles dug deep and got more clutch shots from Wilder in the OT session. including the game winning FT.
The win moved the Eagles to 12-6 on the season. They are back in action Friday, January 11th against North Pontotoc.
Cam Smith led the Eagles with 21 pts and 11 rebounds Cody Johnson added 20, Cade Wilder put up 16 clutch points while Chauncey Jackson’s 14 included a rim rattling first half dunk.
In girls action, the Lady Eagles fell 74-42 to the Lady Blue Devils. Falker was led by India Prather’s 20 points. The loss moved Falkner to 3-10 on the season.
