Brenlee Walker served seven aces as Falkner swept Thrasher on Thursday, Sept. 17, giving the Eagles their second straight varsity volleyball victory and another district win.
Falkner won 25–8, 25–15, 25–7 at home to improve to 6–12 overall and 4–2 in district play. The Eagles finished with 16 aces, with Walker and Ella Mauney combining for 11 of them.
Walker added four kills and four digs. She recorded her seven aces on 21 serve attempts, with one service error, according to the match statistics posted on MaxPreps.
Emma Mauney led Falkner at the net with six kills, while Kensie Kennedy supplied five kills and 15 digs. Kennedy also served two aces, matching Emma Mauney’s total.
Ella Mauney finished with 17 of the Eagles’ 20 assists, four aces and nine digs. Kady Duncan led the defense with 19 digs and added three kills. Duncan also handled 12 serve receptions without a reception error in the posted box score.
Falkner totaled 22 kills and 65 digs across the three sets. Kaylee Jo Hopkins contributed three kills, and Maddye Goodin added eight digs and an ace. Layla Quinn Childs finished with six digs, a kill and an assist.
The sweep followed a much longer district victory Tuesday, when Falkner beat Wheeler in five sets. Thursday’s result also gave the Eagles two straight-set wins over Thrasher this season; Falkner won the teams’ Aug. 25 meeting on the road.
Thrasher fell to 1–16. Falkner’s next listed district match is Monday, Sept. 21, at Biggersville, followed by a Thursday trip to Wheeler.
Elsewhere in Tippah County, Pine Grove was scheduled to host Biggersville in volleyball Thursday, but a final was unavailable Friday morning. Results also remained unverified for Walnut’s scheduled golf outing at Booneville and Falkner’s scheduled nine-hole event there. No additional Thursday varsity finals were verified for Blue Mountain, Ripley or Walnut.
