Blue Mountain Baseball Falls to Georgetown and No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan
ATHENS, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian University baseball opened its 2026 season with two losses Friday. The Toppers fell to Georgetown College 8-5 and later to Tennessee Wesleyan 15-5 in eight innings.
In the opener against Georgetown, the Tigers scored three runs in the first inning. Blue Mountain responded with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Ross Polizzi. The Tigers added another run in the second, and the Toppers cut the deficit to 4-2 in the third on a double by Reise Thomas that scored Jake Meilstrup.
Both teams traded runs in the fourth inning, and the Tigers scored three unearned runs in the ninth to seal the victory. Blue Mountain’s starter Benji Webb pitched four innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts. Reliever Jack Hearn tossed four innings, allowing two hits with five strikeouts. Ryan Murphy took the loss, despite not allowing a hit or earned run. Meilstrup, Polizzi, and Thomas each had two hits for the Toppers, with Thomas driving in two runs.
Later Friday, Blue Mountain faced No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan and was defeated 15-5 in eight innings. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first inning, three unearned against starter Caleb Hall. Wesleyan added two more in the second and four in the fourth, building a large lead.
The Toppers rallied in the third and fourth innings. Jack Hearn hit a solo home run in the third, and Cody Presley doubled in a run in the fourth, with Reise Thomas scoring on the play. In the fifth, Meilstrup doubled in Hearn, and Thomas hit a two-run homer, making the score 10-5. The Bulldogs responded with five more runs down the stretch to secure the win. Hall took the loss for Blue Mountain, allowing three earned runs in 1.1 innings. Hearn, Meilstrup, Polizzi, and Thomas each had two hits for the Toppers. Blue Mountain remains in Athens to face both teams again Saturday at noon and 3 p.m. CT.
