CUHCBERT, Ga. — Blue Mountain Christian started SSAC play with a 2-1 win over Andrew College on Thursday afternoon. Alfonso Vasquez and Nicholas Vieira scored for the Toppers, who improved to 3-1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Toppers dominated offensively, outshooting Andrew 17-6 and putting eight shots on goal. They also limited the Tigers to just two shots on target. Vasquez opened the scoring in the 36th minute, assisted by Erick Braga, to give Blue Mountain Christian a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Andrew equalized early in the second half when Manuel Lopez scored off an assist from Paul Coaxum in the 62nd minute. The Toppers responded quickly, with Nicholas Vieira netting the game-winner in the 69th minute after a pass from Mateus Furio. Vieira’s third goal of the season proved to be the difference maker.
Blue Mountain Christian’s defense held firm late, preventing Andrew from scoring despite two late corner kicks. Vasquez and Nicholas Vieira each finished with two shots on goal and a goal, while Braga and Furio contributed assists. The Toppers finished with 17 total shots and eight on target.
The victory marks the team’s first conference win of the season as they prepare to continue SSAC competition.
