CUtbert, Georgia — Blue Mountain Christian University’s women’s soccer team opened Southern States Athletic Conference play with a dominant 8-0 win over Andrew College on Thursday. The Toppers scored seven goals in the first half and secured their first victory of the season.
Daniella Nieto led the offensive charge, recording a hat trick and an assist. She scored her first goal 2 minutes and 30 seconds into the match, assisted by Nayelli Aguayo. Just 33 seconds later, Nieto found the net again, and Aguayo joined the scoring at 4:10 with an assist from Alba Hernandez. Madison McGillivray added a goal in the seventh minute, and Duda Koespel scored her second assist of the game at 11:54, making it 5-0.
Nieto completed her hat trick at 23 minutes and 26 seconds, giving the Toppers a 7-0 lead less than 24 minutes into the game. Taylor Duggar added to the lead in the 20th minute. The teams played through the remainder of the first half with Blue Mountain holding a commanding advantage.
Andrew College’s only shot on goal came in the 54th minute, but Kiana Gordon made the save to keep the shutout intact. The Toppers added their final goal at 28:26, when Hernandez scored off an assist from Nieto. In the final 10 minutes, Koespel hit the crossbar and Hernandez struck the post, but no further goals were scored.
Blue Mountain outshot Andrew College 23-1 and placed 17 shots on target. Seven different players scored for the Toppers, with Nieto leading with six shots, five on goal, three goals, and an assist. Aguayo contributed a goal and two assists, while Hernandez added a goal and an assist. The Toppers’ defense was equally strong, holding the Hawks to a single shot and securing their first clean sheet of the season. Gordon made the lone save in goal.
With the win, Blue Mountain Christian improves to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in SSAC play.
