Blue Mountain Christian Softball Sweeps Delta State in Doubleheader
Cleveland, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian’s softball team won both games of a doubleheader Tuesday against Delta State University, rallying in clutch moments to secure the wins on the road.
In the opener, the Toppers jumped to an early lead but faced a late surge from Delta State. Blue Mountain Christian took a 2-1 lead in the third inning after Mikaylah Fuqua tripled and scored on a groundout. They added another run in the fourth when Karen Wisher doubled to drive in Laklyn Nichols. Delta State responded in the fifth, but Neely Barrier’s two-RBI double in the sixth put the Toppers back in front. Delta State scored once in the seventh, but Blue Mountain Christian held on for a 6-5 victory. Neely Cooper pitched all seven innings to earn the win, navigating pressure throughout.
The second game was equally competitive. Fuqua drove in a run in the first inning, and Kelsey Camp added an RBI single. Delta State tied the game but Blue Mountain Christian regained control in the fourth with Vaye Savage’s two-run double. The host team built a 6-3 lead in the middle innings, but Savage’s three-run homer in the sixth tied the game at six. The game remained tied until the eighth, when Bre Ramsey scored the winning run on a wild pitch, sealing a 7-6 victory. Anna Harrison and Savage each collected four hits and four RBIs, respectively. Gail Wisher earned the win in relief, throwing 4.1 scoreless innings to close the game.
Blue Mountain Christian’s doubleheader sweep highlighted its resilience, with timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and steady pitching. The victories underscored the team’s ability to perform under pressure and finish strong.
