Blue Mountain Christian Sweeps Bethel in Dramatic Doubleheader
BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — The Blue Mountain Christian softball team wrapped up its midweek schedule with a pair of wins over Bethel, including a dramatic walk-off in Game 2.
In Game 1, the Toppers defeated Bethel 8-1. After giving up an early run, Blue Mountain responded in the third inning with a rally. Mikaylah Fuqua tied the game with an RBI single, and Aspen Teague followed with a go-ahead hit. Kelsey Camp added a run-scoring single as the Toppers took a 3-1 lead.
The Toppers broke the game open in the fourth inning. Bre Ramsey scored on a Bethel error, Neely Barrier hit a sacrifice fly, and Teague delivered a two-RBI triple to extend the lead to 7-1. Fuqua added another RBI in the sixth to seal the victory. Fuqua and Teague each had two hits and five RBIs combined, while Karen Wisher contributed three RBIs and two hits. Anna Harrison also added two hits in the win.
Madison Montgomery earned the win in the circle, allowing one run in four innings. Janna Shaw closed the game with three innings of relief, earning the save.
Game 2 featured a different challenge for Blue Mountain Christian, as Bethel took an 8-1 lead into the fourth inning. The Toppers began chipping away with a two-run home run from Maryn Macri, sparking a comeback. In the fifth, Vaye Savage delivered an RBI single, Bre Ramsey added a run-scoring hit, and Laklyn Nichols drew an RBI walk to cut the deficit to 8-6.
Bethel added a run in the seventh, but Blue Mountain Christian responded in the bottom of the inning. Fuqua hit an RBI single, Teague added another, and Camp drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 9-9. Savage then delivered the game-winning single with the bases loaded, completing the 10-9 walk-off victory.
The Toppers totaled 17 hits in Game 2, led by Teague’s four hits and Harrison’s three. Savage contributed three hits and two RBIs, including the game-winner. Macri’s two-run homer was a key moment in the comeback. Bri Langley started in the circle, with Gail Wisher earning the win in relief, striking out four over 5.2 innings.
Blue Mountain Christian improved to 34-12-1 with the wins. The team will close out the regular season Friday with a road doubleheader against UT Southern.
