Palm Harbor, Fla. — Blue Mountain Christian University’s women’s golf team finished eighth in a 13-team field at The Invite at Innisbrook on Tuesday. The Toppers posted rounds of 316, 318, and 314 on the par-71, 5,998-yard course at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club. They finished with a three-round total of 948, 96 over par.
Blue Mountain Christian saved its best team score for the final day, shooting a 314. The tournament featured five teams ranked in the NAIA Top 25, including No. 3 Dalton State, No. 10 Southeastern, No. 12 Truett McConnell, No. 15 Pikeville and tied for 25th Coastal Georgia. The Toppers finished ahead of Pikeville and Coastal Georgia in the final standings.
Ansley Pratt led the team individually, finishing 20th with a 230. She opened with a 77, shot 78 in the second round, and closed with her best round of 75 on Tuesday. Karla Frutos finished 29th at 235, after rounds of 77, 76, and 82. Morgan Dabbs tied for 35th at 238, shooting a final round of 77 after opening with 78 and 83. Erin Porter tied for 47th with a 247, improving each day with rounds of 84, 83, and 80. Kayla Shaull completed the lineup in 54th at 251, highlighted by an 81 in the second round.
“I was proud of the way our ladies competed in a really strong field,” BMCU head coach Kevin Barefield said. “We had some good stretches of golf over the three rounds, and I thought we did a nice job of finishing the tournament strong today. Playing against this type of competition gives us a good opportunity to see where we are and what we need to continue working on.”
Team-wise, No. 3 Dalton State won the title with a score of 870, while No. 10 Southeastern finished second at 880. No. 12 Truett McConnell placed third at 924. BMCU finished just one stroke behind seventh-place Spring Hill and five strokes ahead of ninth-place Reinhardt.
