Montgomery, Alabama — Blue Mountain Christian College junior libero Abbi Williams has been named the SSAC Defender of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Williams led the Volley Toppers’ defense during the Carolina Classic, a three-match tournament hosted by Carolina University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Williams recorded 67 digs across 11 sets, averaging 6.09 digs per set during the opening weekend. Her defensive efforts helped the Volley Toppers finish with a 2-1 record, including two straight-set victories.
“Abbi was a huge part of our success this weekend,” head coach Sara Eason said. “She was consistent, aggressive and gave us a steady presence defensively in every match. Her ability to read the game and keep plays alive gave our offense opportunities to stay in rhythm. I’m proud to see her hard work recognized with this honor.”
This is Williams’ first weekly honor of the season. The award recognizes her defensive contributions during the team’s opening matches.
