Blue Mountain splits doubleheader with Christian Brothers, wins game two in extras

Blue Mountain Christian University faced Christian Brothers University in a doubleheader Tuesday at the BMCU Sportsplex. The Buccaneers took the opener 7-3, but the Toppers rallied to win the second game 5-4 in extra innings, according to school officials.

In game one, Christian Brothers scored early and often, plating runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to build a 3-0 lead. Blue Mountain responded in the fourth when Rachel Rommel hit an RBI single to score Gail Wisher. The Toppers tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth on a two-RBI single from Kelsey Camp, who also set a school record with 35 RBIs this season. Christian Brothers broke the game open in the sixth, scoring four runs to pull away.

Anna Harrison led Blue Mountain at the plate, going 3-for-4 and stealing three bases. Camp finished with two RBIs, and Rommel added a hit with an RBI. Bri Langley took the loss for the Toppers, pitching five innings with one strikeout. Madison Montgomery pitched two scoreless innings of relief, officials said.

In game two, Blue Mountain overcame an early 2-0 deficit. The Toppers scored three runs in the fourth, sparked by an RBI double from Bre Ramsey and a two-RBI double from Karen Wisher, giving them a 3-2 lead. Christian Brothers answered with two runs in the fifth to retake the lead, but Blue Mountain tied it in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Mikaylah Fuqua.

The game remained tied until the eighth inning, when Gail Wisher delivered a walk-off RBI single to score Fuqua and secure a 5-4 victory. Neely Cooper pitched the full game, allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts, officials said. The Toppers finished with nine hits, with key contributions from Ramsey, Wisher, Fuqua, and Wisher again.

The split keeps Blue Mountain competitive against strong opponents, demonstrating resilience and focus in the second game, school officials added.
