Blue Mountain Volleyball Sweeps William Carey in Four Sets
BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian volleyball defeated William Carey in four sets Thursday at Tyler Gym. The Volley Toppers secured the win with set scores of 25-19, 19-25, 25-15, 25-20, in an SSAC contest.
Blue Mountain took control early, winning the first set with 13 kills and holding William Carey to a .026 hitting percentage. The Crusaders responded in the second set, leveling the match with a 25-19 victory. The Toppers regained momentum in the third, limiting William Carey to eight kills and a negative hitting percentage, then closed out the match in the fourth set.
Salice Speed and Marissa Gerleman led Blue Mountain’s attack, each recording 12 kills. Gerleman hit .550 with one error in 20 attempts, and Speed added 18 digs and three service aces. Olivia Lewis contributed defensively with seven blocks, while Gerleman added five. The Toppers totaled nine blocks to William Carey’s six.
Abbi Williams led the back row with 26 digs, and Valeria Velez added 10 digs, six kills, and three aces. Teelie Tyer chipped in four kills and four digs. Blue Mountain used multiple setters; Sydney Tague dished out 17 assists, Olivia Domino added 10, and Brenyn Wilbanks finished with nine.
As a team, Blue Mountain outhit William Carey .182 to .085, while also leading in kills (46-45), aces (8-4), blocks (9-6), and digs (74-67). The victory improves Blue Mountain’s SSAC record, and they will face Mobile at 1 p.m. tomorrow in another conference match.
