Loyola defeated Blue Mountain Christian in three sets Friday night inside The Den in New Orleans. The Wolf Pack secured the win with set scores of 25-20 and 25-18 after dropping the opening frame.
Blue Mountain Christian’s Marissa Gerleman led the team with 10 kills. Valeria Velez added six kills, and the Toppers finished with a total of 28 as a team. The team’s strongest effort came in the second set, which they nearly took before Loyola pulled away.
Defensively, Abbi Williams recorded a match-high 19 digs at libero. Salice Speed and Velez each contributed six digs. Olivia Lewis led at the net with four blocks, while Speed and Velez added two each. The Toppers totaled seven blocks, one shy of Loyola’s eight.
In the setting game, Brenyn Wilbanks dished out a team-high 11 assists, followed by Olivia Domino with seven and Sydney Tague with six. Speed also contributed two of the team’s three service aces. Blue Mountain Christian will look to bounce back in its next SSAC match against Xavier.
