Ethan Adams scored four touchdowns, but Falkner still needed a late defensive play and a winning score from Jonis Flynn to finish a 42–34 homecoming victory over East Union on Friday, Sept. 25.
Cade Alston forced a fumble late in the fourth quarter to give the Eagles their opportunity, and Flynn supplied the decisive touchdown in a game that remained unsettled until the final play, according to Tippah County Sports’ game report.
Quarterback Asa Childs completed 14 of 17 passes for two touchdowns. His accuracy and Adams’ four scores helped Falkner produce its highest point total of the season after scoring just six points combined in its previous two games.
The Eagles improved to 2–2 and ended a two-game losing streak. East Union dropped to 1–4, with the final score confirmed by MaxPreps.
Ripley’s homecoming ended differently. The Tigers twice pulled within three points of Booneville, but Tony Ogden’s three rushing touchdowns and an 80-yard kickoff return for a score helped the Blue Devils leave with a 31–21 victory.
Kyran McDonald led Ripley with 110 rushing yards on 16 carries and completed six of 10 passes for 109 yards. He scored on a 1-yard run, and the ensuing two-point conversion cut Booneville’s lead to 17–14. Booneville answered with Cowan’s 80-yard kickoff return and the extra point to restore a 10-point advantage.
McDonald brought the Tigers close again with a 46-yard touchdown pass to Cohen Wright. The extra point made it 24–21 before Ogden’s 4-yard touchdown run and another conversion set the final margin, according to the RCTV game report.
Wright finished with two catches for 78 yards. Ogden gained 155 yards on 21 carries, including touchdown runs of 60, 3 and 4 yards. Ripley held a 285–277 edge in total offense, but the Tigers committed the game’s only turnover and drew 11 penalties for 95 yards; Booneville was penalized three times for 20 yards.
