Walnut bring the boom in season opener

Walnut’s season opening theme? Here come’s the boom.

The Wildcats didn’t disappoint in bringing it early and often against their opponent from Ashland, winning Friday nights game 43-8.

Walnut scored 14 points in under two minutes to start the game on a Kris Perry 22 yard run and fumble recovery scoop and score on the ensuing kickoff. Kevin Hurley added another first quarter touchdown on a 1 yard dive for a 21-0 first quarter lead.

The Wildcats were able to sub in and get some looks from other players throughout the contest, with backup quarterback of the future Cade Hunt shining in his debut action. He ended the night with a touchdown pass to finish the scoring.

The Walnut defense held tough all night, with leading tackler Andy Allen getting a fumble recovery and a blocked punt to go with multiple tackles in the backfield.

Looking ahead

The Wildcats square off with rival Falkner in the annual Joe Bowl next week. Look for the possibility of lots of fireworks.
