Louisiana Christian beats Blue Mountain Christian in season opener
Blue Mountain Christian University opened its women’s soccer season Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Louisiana Christian University in Blue Mountain, Mississippi.
Louisiana Christian got on the scoreboard early. Katalina Medina scored in the fifth minute off an assist from Isabella Urbaneto to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead, according to game reports.
The Wildcats doubled their lead just before halftime. Giselle Laing scored in the 45th minute, assisted by Izzy Childs, to send Louisiana Christian into the break ahead 2-0.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Medina scored her second goal, increasing the Wildcats’ lead to 3-0. Blue Mountain Christian responded with a goal in the 66th minute. Nayelli Aguayo scored off an assist from Maria Eduarda Koespel, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
The Toppers managed five shots in the second half but could not close the gap. Louisiana Christian finished with a 24-10 advantage in shots and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks, according to match statistics. BMCU’s defense made nine saves, while the Wildcats recorded five.
Blue Mountain Christian will host Talladega College next Saturday for its home opener, the school announced.
