Falkner was one set from another volleyball defeat Tuesday before turning its district match against Wheeler into a three-set comeback, winning 24–26, 16–25, 25–20, 25–21, 15–11 at home.
The Eagles’ 3–2 victory highlighted Tippah County’s verified varsity results for Sept. 15, alongside straight-sets wins by Walnut over New Site and Ripley over Alcorn Central.
After dropping a close opener and losing the second set by nine points, Falkner had no margin for another setback. It took the third by five, the fourth by four and the deciding set by four to complete the reversal, according to the MaxPreps box score.
The result ended Falkner’s three-match losing streak and lifted the Eagles to 5–12 overall and 3–2 in district play. Five days earlier, they had lost a five-set match at Pine Grove; Monday brought a sweep at New Site. This time, Falkner finished the fifth set on the winning side, handing Wheeler its sixth loss against 13 victories.
Walnut needed only three sets to dispatch that same New Site team, recording a 3–0 home district win. The Wildcats improved to 21–4 and 5–0 in the district, following Monday’s sweep of Baldwyn with another shutout. New Site fell to 13–3. The teams are scheduled to meet again Sept. 22 at New Site.
Ripley also answered a Monday loss with a home victory, beating Alcorn Central 25–13, 25–17, 25–23. The Golden Bears narrowed the gap in each set, but the Tigers closed out the third by two points to even their record at 11–11. Ripley had been swept at Kossuth the previous night.
Pine Grove’s scheduled home volleyball match against Jumpertown and Ripley’s scheduled 18-hole golf event at Booneville had no verified final results available at publication. No Tuesday varsity result was verified for Blue Mountain.
Falkner’s next listed volleyball match is Thursday at home against Thrasher at 6 p.m. Pine Grove is scheduled to host Biggersville at the same time, while Ripley’s next listed match is Monday against visiting Senatobia at 6 p.m. All times are Central.
