ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — The No. 16 Blue Mountain Christian University men’s golf team opened its fall season with a second-place finish at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational at Sea Palms Golf Resort.
The Toppers posted rounds of 282, 270, and 278 on the par-71 course, finishing with a three-round team score of 830. They finished five strokes behind tournament champion Reinhardt, which finished with an 825.
Alex Nordstrom led the team with an individual championship, carding a 12-under-par total of 199 (70-65-64). After opening with a 70, Nordstrom improved in each subsequent round, firing a 65 in the second round and a 64 in the final. He secured the title by six strokes.
Cobey Riddle finished third overall at nine-under par, improving his score each round with a 204 (69-68-67). Axel Houdaille also placed inside the top seven, finishing seventh at four-under par with a 209 (70-66-73), highlighted by a five-under 66 in the second round.
“I thought our guys did a tremendous job competing from start to finish,” BMCU head coach Kevin Barefield said. “Alex had an outstanding tournament, and Cobey and Axel gave us some really strong golf as well. To have three guys finish inside the top seven and come away with a runner-up finish gives us a lot to build on. There are still areas where we can get better, but this was a very encouraging way to start our fall season.”
Other top performers included Carlos Frutos, who tied for 29th at four-over par with a 217 (73-70-74), and Acen Lambert, who finished tied for 40th at eight-over par with a 221 (73-75-73). The team’s best round was in the second, when they combined for a 270, 14 strokes better than their opening round. They followed with a 278 in the final round to secure second place overall.
Two individuals also competed for BMCU: Ayers Mathis, who tied for 16th at one-over par with a 214 (70-74-70), and Adrian Perez, who finished tied for 24th at three-over par with a 216 (71-71-74).
With a strong showing in their first event, the No. 16 Toppers leave St. Simons Island with momentum for their 2026 fall campaign, according to team officials.
