FASTPITCH: Lady Cougars host West Union to open Class 1A playoffs
BLUE MOUNTAIN–There is one final Tippah County team waiting to enter the 2022 MHSAA State Fastpitch Softball Championships–the No. 1 seeded Blue Mountain Lady Cougars.
Blue Mountain (13-6) finished first in Div. 3-1A during the regular season and earned a first-round bye. They split the division series with Hickory Flat. But the Lady Cougars took the division by a run differential of two points.
Now they’ll have a home-field advantage when they host the West Union Lady Eagles, a No. 2 seed, in a three-game series.
Game 1 is set for today at 5:30 p.m. West Union (9-11) will host Game 2 Saturday at 1 p.m. If necessary, Game 3 will be back in Blue Mountain on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Brady Cox is in his first year as head coach for the Lady Cougars says he has a solid ball club with lots of knowledge of the game. He said they will need all of that plus some against West Union. Cox is a native of Ingomar and is very familiar with the Lady Eagles.
“We gotta come ready for a war against them,” said Cox. “I know they’re pretty good so we need to be on our game.”
The Lady Eagles advanced past the opening round with a sweep of Houlka, 6-1 and 5-2.
