Ripley, Walnut set for Tuesday playoff tests as Tippah teams look ahead

Ripley and Walnut will put their volleyball seasons on the line at home Tuesday, Oct. 6, with both second-round playoff matches scheduled for 6 p.m. Ripley welcomes Itawamba Agricultural in Class 4A, while Walnut faces East Webster in Class 2A.

The Lady Tigers enter 16–15 after rallying past North Pontotoc on Saturday; Walnut carries a 29–4 record and 10 consecutive victories into its next test. Pine Grove, 22–11, also advanced and next faces West Union in Class 1A, although its posted schedule leaves the date and time unannounced. Falkner’s season ended Saturday at Tupelo Christian Prep.

No completed varsity result could be verified for Sunday, Oct. 4, across Blue Mountain, Falkner, Pine Grove, Ripley and Walnut. The next posted events follow; all times are Central.

Football begins Thursday this week for Falkner, which visits Riverside on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. The school confirmed the move from Friday. On Oct. 9, Walnut hosts Biggersville and Ripley travels to New Albany, both at 7 p.m.

Blue Mountain’s boys and girls cross-country teams list Saturday’s Dew It On The Trails meet at Point Mallard Park in Decatur, Alabama. The Oct. 10 small-school races start with girls at 10 a.m. and boys at 10:30. Walnut’s school calendar lists its runners at the community Firehouse 5K in Walnut that morning at 8.

The next interscholastic meet listed for Walnut and Falkner is the Oct. 22 regional at BNA Park Soccer/Tennis Complex and Tallahatchie Trails in New Albany: girls at 11 a.m., boys at 11:30. Ripley races there at 10 and 10:30, respectively. Pine Grove’s boys and girls have no next meet listed on their team schedule. Falkner boys golf next plays the Booneville division match Oct. 13 at 8:30 a.m.

Winter schedules open with Ripley hosting Caledonia in soccer Oct. 26, girls at 5 p.m. and boys at 7. Basketball follows Nov. 3: Blue Mountain hosts Thrasher and Pine Grove visits Houlka, both girls at 6 and boys at 7:30; Ripley hosts Falkner’s girls at 6. On Nov. 7, Walnut hosts Strayhorn’s girls, with tipoff unconfirmed, and Tishomingo County’s boys at 1:30. Ripley’s boys host New Albany Nov. 10 at 7; Falkner’s boys host Myrtle that night at 7:30.

The 2027 spring listings begin with Pine Grove softball’s Mooreville jamboree and Walnut baseball’s Mooreville scrimmage Feb. 6, times unposted. Ripley softball hosts New Albany Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m.; Falkner baseball hosts Tremont Feb. 11 at 6, and its softball team hosts New Site Feb. 19 at 5:30. Ripley baseball visits Pontotoc March 5 at 7; Pine Grove visits Walnut March 6 at 1. Walnut softball hosts New Site March 16 at 5:30.

Archery starts Jan. 28 for Pine Grove against visiting Wheeler, time unlisted; Blue Mountain next visits Pine Grove Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. No next event is posted for Blue Mountain baseball or softball; Ripley and Walnut boys and girls golf, Pine Grove golf and Falkner girls golf; Ripley and Walnut tennis; Blue Mountain, Falkner, Ripley and Walnut track; Falkner and Ripley boys and girls powerlifting; or Falkner, Ripley and Walnut archery.
