Walnut takes 12-match winning streak into North State rematch at East Union

Walnut’s path to a volleyball state championship runs through the team that beat it in September. The Lady Wildcats visit unbeaten East Union at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, carrying 12 consecutive victories into the North State final at East Union High School in Blue Springs.

Walnut is 31–4; East Union is 36–0. The Urchins won their Sept. 1 meeting 3–1. Walnut’s schedule now offers a rematch with a championship berth at stake, following three straight playoff sweeps. Ripley, Pine Grove and Falkner have completed their volleyball seasons; none lists another match.

No completed varsity result was verified for Saturday, Oct. 10, across Tippah County’s five high schools. This roundup looks ahead, with all times Central.

One Saturday listing changed: Walnut’s cross-country calendar included the Firehouse 5K, but Walnut Fire & Rescue postponed the community race to Oct. 17 at 8:30 a.m. because of forecast heavy rain. The team’s next listed interscholastic meet is the Oct. 22 regional at New Albany’s BNA Park/Tallahatchie Trails. Walnut and Falkner’s girls race at 11 a.m., boys at 11:30; Ripley’s girls start at 10 and boys at 10:30, according to the meet organizer. Pine Grove lists no next meet. Blue Mountain’s next listed varsity meet is its regional at Blue Mountain College, with the organizer listing Oct. 20, girls at 4 p.m. and boys at 4:35.

Falkner’s boys golfers have a division match in Booneville Oct. 13 at 8:30 a.m. Its girls travel to Brookhaven for state Oct. 19–20, with tee times unposted. Football follows Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.: Falkner at Ashland, Walnut hosting Hamilton and Ripley at Byhalia, the latter date listed by both MaxPreps and South Tippah’s calendar.

Ripley soccer hosts Caledonia Oct. 26, girls at 5 p.m. and boys at 7. Basketball begins Nov. 3 for Blue Mountain against visiting Thrasher and Pine Grove at Houlka, girls at 6 and boys at 7:30. Ripley’s girls host Falkner at 6 that night. Walnut hosts Strayhorn’s girls Nov. 7, individual tipoff unconfirmed, and Tishomingo County’s boys at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 10 brings New Albany’s boys to Ripley at 7 and Myrtle’s boys to Falkner at 7:30.

The earliest posted 2027 baseball events are Walnut’s Feb. 6 scrimmage at Mooreville, time unlisted; Ripley at Alcorn Central Feb. 6 at 2 p.m.; Tremont at Falkner Feb. 11 at 6; and Pine Grove at Walnut March 6 at 1. North Tippah’s calendar supplies the earlier Walnut and Falkner dates.
