Walnut faces unbeaten East Union for state berth; Falkner golf next on county schedule

Walnut has swept three playoff opponents. A fourth victory Monday would send the Lady Wildcats to the volleyball state championship match, but it requires beating an East Union team that has yet to lose.

The 31–4 Lady Wildcats visit the 36–0 Urchins at 6 p.m. Oct. 12 at East Union High School in Blue Springs. Walnut has won 12 straight, while its September meeting with East Union ended in a 3–1 loss. Ripley, Pine Grove and Falkner list no further volleyball matches.

No completed varsity result was verified for Sunday, Oct. 11, across Tippah County’s five high schools. The next scheduled contests follow; all times are Central.

Falkner’s boys golfers compete in a division match in Booneville Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 8:30 a.m., according to North Tippah’s calendar. The girls’ next competition is state in Brookhaven Oct. 19–20, with tee times unposted. Football resumes Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.: Falkner visits Ashland, Walnut hosts Hamilton, and Ripley visits Byhalia on the date listed by MaxPreps and South Tippah.

Regional cross-country meets come next for four schools. Blue Mountain races at Blue Mountain College Oct. 20, girls at 4 p.m. and boys at 4:35, on the organizer’s schedule. At New Albany’s BNA Park/Tallahatchie Trails Oct. 22 regional, Ripley’s girls start at 10 a.m., boys at 10:30; Falkner and Walnut’s girls run at 11, boys at 11:30. Pine Grove lists no next meet.

Ripley soccer welcomes Caledonia Oct. 26, girls at 5 p.m. and boys at 7. Basketball opens Nov. 3 with Thrasher at Blue Mountain and Pine Grove at Houlka, girls at 6 and boys at 7:30. Ripley hosts Falkner’s girls at 6 that night. Walnut’s Nov. 7 home opponents are Strayhorn’s girls, tipoff unconfirmed, and Tishomingo County’s boys at 1:30. Ripley’s boys host New Albany Nov. 10 at 7; Falkner’s boys host Myrtle at 7:30.

The earliest posted 2027 baseball dates are Walnut’s Feb. 6 scrimmage at Mooreville, time unlisted; Ripley at Alcorn Central Feb. 6 at 2 p.m.; Tremont at Falkner Feb. 11 at 6; and Pine Grove at Walnut March 6 at 1. Softball starts with Pine Grove’s Mooreville jamboree Feb. 6, time unposted; New Albany at Ripley Feb. 9 at 6:30; New Site at Falkner Feb. 19 at 5:30; and New Site at Walnut March 16 at 5:30. Blue Mountain lists neither a baseball nor softball opener.
