Blue Mountain Christian Falls to No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett in Doubleheader
Blue Mountain Christian hosted Georgia Gwinnett on Friday in a doubleheader that tested the Toppers against one of the NAIA’s top programs. The Eagles won both games, but the Toppers remained competitive through strong individual efforts and persistent offense, according to team sources.
In the opener, Georgia Gwinnett built an early lead with multiple scoring innings. Blue Mountain Christian responded offensively, finishing with nine hits. Jake Meilstrup led off strong, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and a run scored. Ross Polizzi drove in the team’s first run with an RBI single in the sixth, and Trace Roy scored in the seventh to close the scoring. On the mound, Benji Webb pitched four innings with three strikeouts, while Caden Moore added a scoreless inning in relief to keep the game close.
The nightcap featured one of the team’s most productive offensive performances this season. Blue Mountain Christian traded runs with Georgia Gwinnett and remained within striking distance. Meilstrup led the offense again, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and five RBIs. Cody Presley contributed two hits and a run scored, while Reise Thomas, Ethan Hirons, and Yaidel Perez each drove in runs. The team totaled 10 hits and scored in four different innings, including a late push to challenge until the final outs.
On the mound, Chip Harris, Judson Griffin, and Jesse Hancock combined for pitching duties, with Hancock closing out the game. Defensively, the Toppers worked to limit rallies and compete until the end. The doubleheader served as an early-season test for Blue Mountain Christian, providing valuable experience against elite competition, according to coaches.
