Blue Mountain Christian University Men’s Golf Heads to NAIA National Championship

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — The Blue Mountain Christian University men’s golf team, ranked 12th nationally, will compete in the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship next week in Silvis, Illinois. This marks only the second time the program has qualified for the event.

The tournament runs from May 12 to 15 at TPC Deere Run Golf Course and features 29 teams and 11 individual qualifiers. BMCU earned an at-large bid after a season of competing against top NAIA programs, according to the school.

Head coach Kevin Barefield praised the team’s effort. “Making the NAIA National Championship is a tremendous achievement,” he said. “This team has worked incredibly hard, stayed committed, and represented Blue Mountain Christian University well. I’m proud of these young men and excited for them to compete against the best teams in the country.”

Blue Mountain reached its highest ranking this season at No. 8 in March, the school said. Athletic Director Curt Fowler credited the coaching staff for the team’s improvement. “Coach Barefield and Coach Kohl have invested everything into building this program,” Fowler said. “We’re proud of our guys and look forward to seeing them compete for a national title.”

University President Dr. Barbara McMillin expressed her support. “We’re thrilled with the team’s accomplishments,” she said. “Their hard work has earned them this opportunity, and we are confident they will represent us with excellence and professionalism.”
