Blue Mountain Christian Volleyball Tops Freed-Hardeman in Five Sets

Henderson, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian University’s volleyball team rallied for a five-set victory over Freed-Hardeman University on Tuesday night. The match was played on the Lions’ home court, with BMCU winning 3-2 (18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 15-13).

Freed-Hardeman took the opening set 25-18 behind 14 kills. The Volley Toppers responded in the second set, recording 15 kills and hitting .268, while holding the Lions to a .068 hitting percentage. BMCU took the set 25-21 to even the match at one set each.

The third set was competitive, with Freed-Hardeman tallying 17 kills. BMCU stayed composed and won 25-23, taking a 2-1 lead. The Lions fought back in the fourth set, winning 25-23 to force a decisive fifth set. In the final frame, BMCU’s strong hitting and defense sealed the win, 15-13.

Salice Speed led the Volley Toppers with 13 kills and 12 digs for a double-double. Marissa Gerleman added 11 kills, and Valeria Velez contributed eight. Mattie Hopper posted four kills without an error on eight attempts, hitting .500. Olivia Domino dished out 19 assists, while Sydney Tague added 14.

Defensively, Abbi Williams recorded 34 digs, her fourth consecutive match with at least 30 digs. Speed had 12 digs, and the team finished with 78 digs overall. BMCU’s front row also made an impact, totaling eight blocks compared to five for Freed-Hardeman. Despite the Lions outkilling BMCU 66-46, the Volley Toppers committed fewer errors and posted a better hitting percentage, 0.197 to 0.183. The victory moves BMCU to 3-1 this season.
