Blue Mountain’s Wilson Named SSAC Freshman of the Year

Montgomery, Alabama — Kaedyn Wilson of Blue Mountain Christian was named the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Freshman of the Year after a standout debut season in track and field. Wilson made a significant impact at the SSAC Championships, setting a school record in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 39:59.42 and earning a bronze medal.

She also finished third in the 5,000 meters, posting a time of 18:50.63. Her performances helped elevate the Toppers’ standing in the conference and showcased her as one of the top young distance runners in the SSAC. Head Coach Phillip Laney praised Wilson’s season, noting her consistency and competitiveness. “Kaedyn has been consistent for us all year. She shows up, puts in the work, and competes the right way,” Laney said. “To come in as a freshman and score the way she did at conference, set a school record, and get on the podium twice says a lot about who she is as a runner. This is a well-earned honor.”

In addition to Wilson’s individual award, Blue Mountain Christian was recognized across multiple conference honors. Eleven athletes were named to the SSAC All-Academic Team, reflecting the program’s emphasis on academic and athletic excellence. The Toppers also earned spots on the Champions of Character Team, with Jonah Barnhardt and Ella Shepherd recognized for their leadership, integrity, and embodiment of NAIA core values.

Wilson’s accolade and the team’s collective honors highlight the program’s success during the season. The awards showcase the development of young athletes and the commitment to character and academics that the Toppers prioritize.
