Blue Mountain Christian University women’s soccer team fell to United States Sports University 1-0 Thursday at The Summit. The match was a defensive struggle, with neither team scoring until the 83rd minute.
USSU, led by goalkeeper Kiana Gordon, applied pressure throughout the game. Gordon made 10 saves, including all six shots on goal in the first half, as the Toppers kept the visitors off the scoreboard through 82 minutes.
Blue Mountain generated limited offense, with three shots in the first half and two on goal. The defensive battle continued after halftime, with Gordon adding four more saves in the second half to maintain the scoreless tie.
The breakthrough came at 82:22 when Ambria Snell scored off an assist from Ansley Warner, giving USSU a 1-0 lead. The Toppers pressed for an equalizer but were unable to find the net before the final whistle. USSU finished with a 21-5 shot advantage, including an 11-3 edge in shots on goal.
Blue Mountain’s Nayelli Aguayo and Maria Eduarda Koespel led the offense with two shots each, with Koespel placing both shots on target. Cassidy Remson added the Toppers’ other attempt. Despite facing 11 shots on goal, Gordon’s strong performance kept the hosts off the scoreboard in the closing minutes.
